Career plans

Most of the Outreachy internship has already passed, and now is the time to think about what I plan to do next.

Before the internship I've already had an experience with C#, Python, and Haskell languages, creating small offline and web apps trying different development approaches and language paradigms.

Any modern development process isn't complete without version control, so I worked much with Git and GitHub.

Once I had the opportunity to deploy a web infrastructure for an educational platform and a code testing system on it to teach students how to program, so now I’m not so afraid to work with hosting and various kinds of web services, even though I don’t really have much experience in this area.

The internship gave me experience with OCaml as just development instrument (without too much modesty - very interesting multi-paradigm language) and as an example of internal structure of programming language and ecosystem around it. For me it is really exciting. I've already learned a lot about it and I want to learn more. And, for sure, there were some clashes with new problems with the Git and ways to solve them (almost every new project brings this, especially a big one).

I think that it would be very nice if I continue working with OCaml or with another programming language core/infrastructure. But it is not compulsory and I'm open to new and willing to learn different areas of technology.

I'm not sure that I am ready to get down to a permanent full-time position because I have 2 years till university graduation. But if it will be possible to work remotely, I'm ready to try, since I already have an experience of this kind of workflow.

A perfect option for me is the summer internship or short-term project to work on. I'm ready to move to another city or country if it is necessary. I'm a native Russian speaker and speak English at the B2 level.

During work on my personal projects and the application process and internship, I inevitably got in touch with different people and got rid of the fear of asking questions and helping other people when they needed it. Therefore, I think that I can work productively with the team and make my contribution to the development and a work environment that is comfortable for everyone.

Upon completion of the internship, I will try to find any opportunities for further career development. If you can advise me on any option, then you can contact me by email (lereenadem@yandex.ru) or through LinkedIn.
